Financial aid totaling $240,000 for Saffrod residents and businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic was approved by the Saffrod City Council recently.

Mayor Jason Kouts said along with the aid, residents will receive a 10% utility bill discount for bills due in May, which can save up to $40,000, according to the Eastern Arizona Courier. Commercial utility bills will also be given a 20% discount on May and June bills, which will save around $100,000 a month, Kouts said.

The deadline for paying utility bills was also extended to April 20, according to the Eastern Arizona Courier. Late fees will also be waived for anyone that received Social Security.

According to the Eastern Arizona Courier, the City of Saffrod has also waived business license fees through June, which will let the city waive license fee requirements on a one time basis.

Anyone who can't pay their utility bill should contact the billing office at 928-432-4060.
