Sage Memorial Hospital issued the following announcement on Oct. 28

Sage Memorial Hospital commemorated 10 years of providing its annual Mass Flu Vaccination event October 14-16, 2020 in Ganado, Arizona. During this community event, Sage provided more than 1,600 flu vaccines to the Navajo people from the Sage Memorial service-area.

Sage Memorial Hospital implemented its annual Mass Flu Vaccination event in 2010, with the intention of providing a service to the community to help manage the impact of the flu season. Since 2010, Sage Memorial Hospital has administered more than 17,000 flu vaccines to the Navajo people.

“When we started the Mass Flu Vaccination event in 2010, the intent was to make sure that elders, children and families had accessibility to the flu vaccine without having to schedule an appointment. Every year, the event has grown, and it has been a great honor to provide this service to help protect the community,” stated Christi El-Meligi, CEO of Sage Memorial Hospital.

In addition to providing the community with the annual Mass Flu Vaccination event, Sage Memorial Hospital has hosted 11 Drive Through COVID-19 Testing events for the communities, providing close to 1,000 tests in an attempt to support the Navajo Nation’s effort in combatting the health pandemic since its public outbreak in March 2020.

Navajo Nation Council Delegate Vince James said, “I would like to congratulate Sage Memorial Hospital for the 10 years of flu vaccinations they have provided to the community and surrounding area of Ganado. Our great historical health care facility Sage Memorial Hospital, continues to move forward and strives to provide necessary healthcare for Ganado Hornet country.”
