At least one legislator in Arizona is questioning the integrity of the 2020 Presidential Election and has called for time to work through recounts and issues filed in court.
State Sen. Sylvia Allen (R-Snowflake) said she no longer has faith in the election process.
"The integrity of our elected officials tasked with the job of protecting our votes has disintegrated," Allen told East Arizona News. "For months before this election, some states were changing the rules of their elections. Removing the guardrails that protect election integrity."
Allen believes fraud has been "built into the system" and noted concerns about voting machines. She also recalled Democrat leaders who vowed to not allow President Donald Trump to serve another term. She believes the election's decision could end up in Congress where each state has one vote to cast for their pick for president.
"What is clear is that America is divided and many have lost confidence in the process. Many believe that the 'end justifies the means.' So, what does it matter if they cheat? Everyone does it," Allen told East Arizona News.
She also believes whoever is declared the winner, the other side won't accept it. She also feels as if there's a greater potential for fraud with mail-in ballots. Allen encouraged in-person early voting locations and said ballots mailed in must be done so on time, if not votes should be cast on they day of the election.
"ID must be presented and signatures must be checked. There must be a paper trail that matches the votes cast and counted. We must restore our trust in the election process," she said.
She called for patience as election-related issues work their way through the process.
Allen has represented Arizona's Sixth State Senate District since 2015. She lost the Republican primary back in August to Wendy Rogers who will take over Allen's seat after winning the general election.
