Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) issued the following announcement on July 21.
The first scene in Zineb Sedira’s “Standing Here Wondering Which Way to Go” (2021) explores the sense of utopia and resistance that accompanied the Pan-African Festival in 1969 through various found media, including the nearly 9-minute film “mise-en-scène” (2019), which is filled with archival footage of Algerian militant films. Visitors are invited to view these reassembled protest films in cinema seats and participate in a re-viewing.
The first Pan-African Festival took place 52 years ago today on July 21, 1969!
