Navajo County issued the following announcement on Feb. 2.
The Navajo County Board of Supervisors approved $21M in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) projects today which invests in economic and educational opportunities, improves delivery of Public Health services, updates the Public Safety communications network, improves access to County services, and contributes to communities across the County.
To develop its strategic allocation of ARPA funds, the Board of Supervisors created a set of guiding principles which defined the goal and expectation that this unique opportunity will transform Navajo County for generations. Although Treasury guidelines allow local governments to allocate up to $10M to account for negative economic impacts during the pandemic, Navajo County has committed its entire allotment of $21M to a package of projects that focuses on improving quality of life and improving access to services.
“Receiving these funds is significant to our region and we have an important responsibility in being steward of how they should be spent,” explained Navajo County Chair Dawnafe Whitesinger. “The projects committed to today will transform educational and economic opportunities for our residents and for their children in the future.”
The Board of Supervisors also placed a high priority on projects with partnerships. The package of ARPA projects leverages an additional $18.1M in partnerships from other sources for a total expected project value of $42.1M for the communities of Navajo County. “These are fantastic partnerships and we can achieve great things,” said Supervisor Daryl Seymore, “And we look forward to working together to make it happen.”
