Attention Property Owners!

A bogus tax “distraint warrant” has appeared in Navajo County and citizens are asked to be vigilant and not to respond to these fraudulent notices. Navajo County Treasurer Kari Lopez is aware of at least one fake tax distraint warrant that was recently delivered to a property owner.

-Official notices from the Navajo County Treasurer’s Office will identify the Treasurer, Kari Lopez, and will show our local return address of PO Box 668, Holbrook, AZ 86025-0668. Additionally, the Navajo County Treasurer’s Office does not have a toll-free number.

-If you receive a fraudulent notice, please contact the Navajo County Treasurer’s Office either in person at 100 East Code Talkers Drive, Holbrook; by mail at PO Box 668, Holbrook, AZ 86025-0668; by phone at (928) 524-4172; or by email at ncto@navajocountyaz.gov.

-The fraudulent letter, sent from the “Tax Resolution Unit,” arrived via US Postal Service in a fold-and-tear mailer that was designed to appear official. It stated that federal tax authorities would aggressively move to collect taxes through garnishing wages, seizing bank accounts, property, and federal tax refunds, or by creating liens.
