Chinle Unified District had the highest enrollment among Apache County districts, welcoming 3,162 students during the 2022-23 academic year, according to the Arizona Department of Education.

Out of the total students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51.7% of them were boys, and 48.3% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were American Indian or Alaskan Native, representing 99.1% of the Chinle Unified District total enrollment.

Among the 11 districts in Apache County, Window Rock Unified District ranked second in enrollment numbers with 1,710 students, while Round Valley Unified District welcomed 1,376 students and ranked third in the 2022-23 school year.

Chinle Unified District roughly covers schools within Apache County and has a main office in Chinle.

In the previous school year, Chinle Unified District also had the highest number of students among Apache County districts.

In 2022 Arizona had roughly one teacher for every 19 students, compared to the national average of one teacher for 16 students. Teachers handling a higher number of students was found to have negative consequences for students' school performance.
