Whiteriver Unified District welcomed 2,351 students in 2022-23 school year

There were 2,351 students enrolled in Whiteriver Unified District schools in the 2022-23 school year, 4.1% more than the 2,259 in the previous year, according to the Arizona Department of Education.

Out of the total students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 50.2% of them were girls, and 49.8% were boys.

Data also showed that most of the students were American Indian or Alaskan Native, representing 98.1% of the Whiteriver Unified District total enrollment.

Whiteriver Unified District roughly covers schools within Navajo County and has a main office in Whiteriver.

Among the five schools in Whiteriver Unified District, Alchesay High School recorded the highest enrollment of 820 students in the 2022-23 school year.

A 2023 study from Scholaroo.com ranked Arizona last out of all U.S. states in terms of educational success, giving the state poor marks for school quality, student success, and teacher-to-student ratio.

In 2022 Arizona had roughly one teacher for every 19 students, compared to the national average of one teacher for 16 students. Teachers handling a higher number of students was found to have negative consequences for students’ school performance.
