WASHINGTON, D.C. — Joint Economic Committee Vice Chairman David Schweikert released a statement following the Bureau of Labor Statistics' announcement that the economy added 175,000 jobs in April. This figure falls below the Bloomberg survey median estimate of a 240,000 increase in nonfarm payrolls.
“Today’s jobs report highlights the need to enact pro-growth policies to support American families,” said Vice Chairman Schweikert. “Many Americans are working multiple jobs just to make ends meet, and consumer confidence has plummeted to its lowest level in nearly two years. President Biden’s reckless fiscal policies continue to wreak havoc on our economy while inflation erodes Americans’ purchasing power and ability to provide for their loved ones. Instead of enacting pro-growth solutions to bring the nation back from the brink, this administration is proposing trillions in new tax hikes that will cripple families and small businesses and saddle future generations with crushing debt.”
