The Arizona Auditor General (AAG) reported that Blue Elementary School District lacked office procedures and inaccurately reported fiscal year 2023 spending.

“(The) District educates a small number of students in a remote community and has taken steps to control its costs, but lacked procedures for certain business office activities, resulting in it being underfunded by over $31,000 and inaccurately reporting its fiscal year 2023 spending,” according to the AAG’s report, “And did not have a formal agreement with Greenlee County School Superintendent’s Office (GCSSO) to provide business office services, increasing the risk of disruptions to District operations.”

Blue Elementary School is located in Blue, Arizona, serving the local community with elementary-level education. It is a part of the Blue School District, which oversees several schools in the region. The school offers classes from kindergarten through sixth grade.

An independent office responsible for auditing the financial activities of state agencies and local governments in Arizona, the AAG’s office issued 185 reports in fiscal year 2023 resulting in $1,744,074 in government fraud uncovered and 37 felony charges.

The AAG reports directly to the Legislature, providing them with objective analyses and recommendations to improve government operations and financial management. The current Arizona Auditor General is Lindsay Perry, who was appointed to the position in 2020. Perry's office conducts audits, special investigations, and financial reviews to support effective governance and fiscal responsibility across the state.
