Chinle Unified District welcomed most students in Apache County during 2023-24 school year

Chinle Unified District had the highest enrollment among Apache County districts, welcoming 3,043 students during the 2023-24 academic year, according to the Arizona Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2023-24 school year, 52.1% of them were boys, and 47.9% were girls.

Data also showed that the majority of students were American Indian or Alaskan Native, representing 98.9% of the Chinle Unified District total enrollment.

Among the 11 districts in Apache County, Window Rock Unified District ranked second in enrollment numbers with 1,727 students, while Round Valley Unified District welcomed 1,290 students and ranked third in the 2023-24 school year.

Chinle Unified District roughly covers schools within Apache County and has a main office in Chinle.

In the previous school year, Chinle Unified District also had the highest number of students among Apache County districts.

A 2023 study from Scholaroo.com ranked Arizona last out of all U.S. states in terms of educational success, giving the state poor marks for school quality, student success, and teacher-to-student ratio.

Additionally, WalletHub claimed Arizona's school system ranked among the worst across U.S. for class size, performance, funding, safety, and instructors' credentials.
