Diné College to Hold Annual Golf Tournament in Farmington

Diné College issued the following announcement on Sept. 7.

Diné College will be hosting their annual Golfers for Scholars golf tournament in Farmington, NM at the Piñon Hills Golf Course on September 25, 2021.

“What has become even more evident through the course of this pandemic, is the resiliency and determination of our Diné College students, said Dr. Charles M. Roessel, president of Diné College. “The funds raised from this event will help provide more opportunities for our students to earn scholarships to further their careers, goals and give back to their Navajo Nation.”

The College “continues to fulfill an unwavering commitment to the academic drive and passion of more than 5,800 alumni and over 1,400 current students,” said Vice-President of the Board at Diné College Theresa Hatathlie. “The College is uniquely qualified and ideally positioned to provide our youth the knowledge and skills required for jobs of the future.”

The registration deadline to enter the tournament will be September 22, 2021. Tournament registration is $125 for individual golfers, $100 for Alumni Golfers, $500 for a team of four golfers, $400 for an Alumni team of four golfers, and $25 for Awards luncheon guest tickets.

On the day of the tournament, the range will open at 7:30 a.m. as well as registration and breakfast. The putting contest will begin at 8:00 a.m. The shotgun start will be at 8:30 a.m. An awards ceremony and luncheon will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The College is seeking sponsorship donations to help make the college degree a reality for its Warrior family of students. There are four levels of sponsorship: White Shell Premium package, Turquoise Package, Abalone Package, and Jet Package. Diné College is a four-year tribal college located on the Navajo reservation with six campuses and two microsites across Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah and primarily serves Navajo students. The school offers 20 bachelor degrees, 16 associate degrees, and 6 certificate programs. The school is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The college, established in 1968, is the first tribal college and was formerly named Navajo Community College.
