U.S. Forest Service - Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests issued the following announcement on Sept. 21.

Are you a woman that feels at home outside and working with your hands? If so, the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest wants you to join their 2021 Women in Wildfire Boot Camp. This is a training program that could lead to on-call positions for the 2022 fire season and beyond. These on-call positions will provide support to wildland fire operations over the summer and can help pave the way for future employment and career advance with the Forest Service.

Approximately 20-30 applicants will be selected. Their first assignment will be to attend the Women in Wildland Fire Boot Camp in October, which provides comprehensive firefighter training and orientation.

The Women in Wildland Fire Boot Camp will be held on the ASNF Oct 29th-31st and Nov 5th-7th. The deadline for applications is October 8th, 2021. Although the training focuses on women in wildland fire, all interested parties are encouraged and invited to attend. No previous experience is required, but proof of completed COVID Vaccine is required. Begin the application process at www.fs.usda.gov/goto/wiwf.
