Tuesday, August 16, 2022, Sheriff Clouse presented Navajo County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Deets, Gila County Deputy Kerszykowski, and Winslow Police Officer Moncayo with a Sheriffs Commendation Award!
On May 17, 2022, while responding to an unrelated call, Sergeant Deets and GCSO Deputy Kerszykowski were traveling on State Route 87 near the Winslow area. Near milepost 341, they witnessed a male subject lying in the road. They immediately stopped and blocked traffic from hitting the individual. When the Deputies made contact with him, he was visibly upset and crying, as they continued to talk with the individual, they were able to remove him from the roadway. WPD Officer Moncayo arrived shortly after to drive him to the hospital to receive help.
The quick and professional action that prevented injury or death was an act of heroism and compassion. With the three of them following through with getting him the help he needed, show they are true professionals. Thank you ALL for the shine on your badge. You represent the mission of law enforcement and public safety.
