In a series of court hearings this week related to the 2021 beating of a former Blue Ridge High School student at Show Low Lake, Emily Fogle, 19, was jailed; her mother, Lisa Fogle, 50, was sentenced to probation; and Cael Stewart, 19, pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated assault. Easton Denton, 18, has an upcoming settlement conference/change of plea hearing and trial date.

NEWS RELEASEHOLBROOK, Ariz. – A former Blue Ridge High School student convicted of facilitating the aggravated assault of her ex-boyfriend in 2021 was sentenced this week to six months in jail and three years of probation. In a series of hearings held in Navajo County Superior Court on February 14, the young woman’s mother was also sentenced, and a co-defendant pleaded guilty for his role in the attack, which occurred at Show Low Lake in August 2021.

Superior Court Judge Dale Nielson sentenced Emily Fogle, 19, for intentionally, knowingly or recklessly causing a serious physical injury to the victim, J.J., who was 19 at the time of the assault. At the conclusion of her sentencing hearing, Fogle entered Navajo County Jail, where she will serve out her term.

According to court documents, Fogle, along with two other Blue Ridge High students, Easton Denton, now 18, and Cael Stewart, now 19, conspired to lure J.J. to Show Low Lake under the pretense of a private conversation with Fogle. After his arrival, Denton and Stewart are accused of subjecting J.J. to a severe beating that continued until an adult came upon the scene. J.J. was airlifted to Phoenix for advanced medical treatment, followed by months of recovery and rehabilitation.

Stewart pleaded guilty this week to attempted aggravated assault, a class 4 felony. According to the plea agreement, Stewart will serve four years of supervised probation, and Judge Nielson will determine at sentencing whether he will serve a jail term. Sentencing is scheduled for April 11.

Lisa Fogle, 50, Emily’s mother, was accused of attempted hindering prosecution in the case, to which she pleaded guilty. Judge Nielson sentenced her to 364 days of unsupervised probation, along with nearly $1,000 in fines, surcharges and court fees. She will be allowed to serve her probation in Texas, where she now resides.

According to the terms of their sentencing and plea agreements, both of the Fogles and Stewart are also ordered to pay restitution, with the amount to be determined at a later date.

The final outstanding defendant in the case, Denton, has a settlement conference/change of plea hearing scheduled on March 6, with a trial date currently scheduled for March 21.

The charges contained in the indictment are merely allegations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. All factual recitations are derived from documents filed in court and statements made on the record in court.
