The Traffic Signal and Streetlight team in Scottsdale has been hard at work during the last week of 2023, replacing damaged signal poles and streetlights in the south of the city. The team recently identified a rusted signal pole at the intersection of McDowell and Miller roads during a routine inspection. To ensure the safety of motorists, a temporary traffic signal was set up for the day-long replacement project.
During the replacement project, the crews not only raised a new signal pole but also took the opportunity to upgrade the traffic light fixtures. Additionally, an extra signal head was installed, and a fresh coat of paint was applied to the mast arm. These improvements will contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the intersection.
In another area of the city, specifically on Valley Vista Dr. east of Hayden Rd., a streetlight replacement took place. This work was strategically scheduled during the winter break of Saguaro High School, which is adjacent to the location. Scottsdale's streetlight replacement program aims to identify streetlights that are nearing their end-of-life. This allows the crews to schedule replacements and upgrades accordingly. The program, which has been ongoing for four years, is set to conclude this year.
So far, the program has been a success, with over 2,790 poles inspected to date. In the coming year, an additional 1,600+ streetlights are scheduled to be inspected. Thanks to the proactive approach of the program, more than 227 end-of-life streetlights and 187 knockdowns have already been replaced by the diligent crews.
