The Traffic Signal and Streetlight team was busy the last week of 2023 week replacing damaged signal poles and streetlights in south Scottsdale. Transportation and Streets crews identified a rusted signal pole at the intersection of McDowell and Miller roads during a routine inspection of the intersection's infrastructure and equipment. A temporary traffic signal was set-up for the day-long replacement project. In addition to raising a new signal pole crews upgraded traffic light fixtures, installed an additional signal head, and applied a fresh coat of paint to the mast arm.

Crews also replaced a streetlight on Valley Vista Dr. east of Hayden Rd.; this work was adjacent to Saguaro high school and was scheduled during the school's winter break. The city's streetlight replacement program identifies streetlights nearing their end-of-life, allowing crews time to schedule light pole replacement and fixture upgrades. The four-year city-wide program will conclude this year. To date more than 2,790 poles have been inspected, an additional 1,600+ streetlights are slated to be inspected this year. As a result of this program, crews have proactively replaced more than 227 end-of-life streetlights and 187 knockdowns.
