The city of Scottsdale is in mourning today as they remember the life and service of Fire Captain Kory Yule. Captain Yule, who served with the Scottsdale Fire Department for over 20 years, passed away on January 7th after battling cancer. He was 42 years old.

Captain Yule's dedication to his community and fellow firefighters was evident throughout his career. Scottsdale Fire Chief Tom Shannon expressed his admiration for Captain Yule, saying, "Kory represented the future of the fire service in Scottsdale. He was selfless in his mentoring of young firefighters, and he was a trusted leader in the field. His career trajectory was certain to include greater leadership responsibilities. He will be deeply missed."

Mayor David D. Ortega also shared his condolences on behalf of the community, stating, "Our hearts are heavy as Scottsdale mourns the loss of Captain Kory Yule, a courageous first responder, husband, and father. Our deepest condolences turn to his family and to the ferociously loyal firefighter families of Scottsdale."

Scottsdale City Manager Jim Thompson emphasized the impact that Captain Yule had on the city and its residents, saying, "Today is a very sad day for our extended city of Scottsdale family. Kory Yule certainly embodied excellence in everything he did, including the way he dedicated himself to the fire service, beginning his career as a Scottsdale firefighter and working his way up to captain."

The cause of Captain Yule's cancer, multiple myeloma, is known to be a higher risk for firefighters due to their exposure to "forever chemicals." It is a reminder of the dangers that firefighters face daily in their line of duty.

Services for Captain Yule are currently being arranged, and more information will be shared in the coming days. The community has already shown an outpouring of support, with many people offering to help Captain Yule's family during this difficult time.
