The Mayor's Ability Awards scholarship committee is now accepting applications from students living with disabilities who wish to pursue higher education. For the past 38 years, these scholarships have provided financial support to college or college-bound students who have demonstrated outstanding initiative in living with a disability and have a genuine desire to continue their education at the college level. The scholarships are sponsored through a partnership with the Gila River Indian Community.
Scottsdale Mayor David D. Ortega emphasized the importance of education and inclusivity for students with disabilities, stating, "Education is the key to unlocking endless possibilities. The Mayor's Ability Awards scholarships uplift individuals so that through education, their intelligence is not overlooked because of outer disabilities."
Eligible Scottsdale students can submit their applications from Jan. 29 to March 1. It is encouraged for aspiring candidates to start the application process as soon as possible. To ensure a thorough and accurate completion of the scholarship application, students are advised to seek assistance from their local academic counselor or transitional counselor. Detailed scholarship information and eligibility requirements for parents and participants can be found on the city's website at ScottsdaleAZ.gov by searching "Ability Awards."
Rebecca Kurth, the contact person for the scholarship application process, stated, "For those who may face challenges completing the online application form, assistance is available. Please contact me at 480-312-7977 for support."
The Mayor's Ability Awards scholarships are a testament to the commitment of Scottsdale and the Gila River Indian Community in promoting education and empowering individuals with disabilities to achieve their academic and professional goals.
