Navajo County Sheriff's Office issued the following announcement on Sept. 30.
Navajo County Sheriff’s Office has received numerous calls for service regarding citizens who are receiving phone calls from both international and local phone numbers. The person on the other end of the phone is claiming they have the citizen’s family member/members (they somehow know names and may use children’s voices to try and convince the recipient of immediate danger) and are demanding payment via cash or gift cards in order for the family members to not be harmed.
Navajo County Sheriff’s Office urges you to contact your family and law enforcement immediately.
