Enrollment at Pinon Unified District schools increased by 13.1% compared to previous school year

There were 1,053 students enrolled in Pinon Unified District schools in the 2022-23 school year, 13.1% more than the 931 in the previous year, according to the Arizona Department of Education.

Out of the total students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 50.7% of them were boys, and 49.3% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were American Indian or Alaskan Native, representing 97.9% of the Pinon Unified District total enrollment.

Pinon Unified District roughly covers schools within Navajo County and has a main office in Pinon.

Among the three schools in Pinon Unified District, Pinon Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of 428 students in the 2022-23 school year.

In 2022 Arizona had roughly one teacher for every 19 students, compared to the national average of one teacher for 16 students. Teachers handling a higher number of students was found to have negative consequences for students’ school performance.

WalletHub claimed Arizona’s school system ranked among the worst across U.S. for class size, performance, funding, safety, and instructors’ credentials.
